NSW: Elderly woman mugged after hospital visit

SYDNEY, Aug 29 AAP - An elderly woman was robbed and had her face stomped on aftervisiting a terminally ill family member in a western Sydney hospital.

The 64-year-old woman, who left St Josephs Hospital in Auburn about 4pm yesterday,was walking in Cardigan Street when a man grabbed her handbag.

During a struggle for the handbag, the woman fell to the roadway and hit her head.

The man then stomped on her face, police said.

Nearby residents came to the woman's aid as her attacker fled with cash, credit cardsand her mobile phone.

She was treated at the scene for cuts and bruises to her face and mouth.

Her attacker was described as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance, aged18 to 25 years, 165-175cm tall and of average build with black hair.

He was wearing a maroon hooded top, grey track pants and grey sandshoes with black stripes.
