Former hostage Italian priest to be reassigned to suburban Manila parish

An Italian missionary priest whom Muslim rebels held hostage for five weeks in the southern Philippines plans to join a parish in a Manila suburb this month, a fellow priest said Thursday.

Giancarlo Bossi was kidnapped _ allegedly by rogue members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front _ in Zamboanga Sibugay province's remote Payao township in June 2007 and freed after 39 days. The MILF is engaged in peace talks with the government.

Steve Baumbusch, parish priest of Mary Queen of Apostles Parish in the Manila suburb of Paranaque, said Bossi will serve as one of his two assistants. The priests are part of the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions.
